I've got another set of (related) question about these mini-games. Will they need to be arcade-y in that you have a set amount of lives, and starting a new game actually costs something? Like, if I lose all my lives in a real arcade cabinet, I need to stick in a couple more quarters to keep playing. Will this be simulated in these games, and if so how? What's to stop someone from closing VL and navigating to the downloaded minigames folder to play them all for free? Is there some kind of check we should implement at the beginning of the game?

INFO:
VirtuaLife is offline for now... Getting Windows XP back onto the system... Every user on this forum knows how laggy it's been, well, it wasn't that way with XP, so there's my solution.
You can expect VL back up tomorrow, with the website as well.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't answer any of my questions, but thanks anyhow.

Dixee, in giving me your GMK file, I take care of all that. It costs money to initially play the game, which will be handled by VirtuaLife... Within the minigame, if you lose, I'm going to make it to where you can only exit the game, not "play again" which is essentially unlimited plays for a single fee.
I'll put in controls for making sure they don't play the game for free. A command called parameter_string().

Okay. So... I just need to make it nintendo hard like old arcade games and not have save points (checkpoints, yes, or lives would be pointless). I think this is something I can handle.

Sure, but you don't always need material evidence to come to the conclusion that someone can create fine work

True... Same concept as hiring a new employee. you don't need to watch them work before you hire them.

Sorry about not being a regular Luke... I've had a ton of stuff going on. Life is crashing down on me, it's never been better, but there's never enough time anymore. Of course it still has it's ups and downs...
Second, I'll PM you about making a topic online with maybe some different coding, but I can't stay on long, so I'll send it later. Science lesson of the day FTW!
I'll try to be on for about 5 min a day *yes, that's a lot for me now*. Can't wait to see the collison update after I've been messing with you for so long... But I'll always find some unfixable bug Good luck trying to stop me. I wish I could be on more, but being the nerd I am, I have too many current commitments to work on.
I promise to try out the new version tomorrow, and congrats on another (probably) sucessful update!

Well if you wanna talk, tell me to get on VL.
Next update, people, should be soon... Until 0.0.2, I'm focused on getting any bugs fixed, and putting in network lag-efficiency systems.

John Garcia and Alexis Newman. Also known as GmMkr and Dixee, respectively. John is the founder of these forums. Dixee is a moderator here, and also a programmer that happened to lend some aid to Luke.Mr. Moderator wrote:Who is John and Dixee though?
