Bring VirtuaLife back from the VirtuaDead? Empty Bring VirtuaLife back from the VirtuaDead?

XD I sware I cracked myself up with that title Very Happy

Hey, everyone! A lot of us who were here a long time ago probably remember VL, or VirtuaLife, a MMORPG John (GmMkr) and I were working on.

Well, I have taken the project back up! You can expect a first release pretty soon. VL will be a neat MMORPG, where people all over the world can log in, hang out, interact with users, play games, get money, earn awards, and become a part of a growing community of people.

In this thread, I will announce improvements, features, and updates to VirtuaLife. Also, I want to know what YOU think of it. Any requests you have, don't hesitate - your ideas won't get shot down.

    CURRENT: 0.0.0.1 (lag test)
    DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire.com/lukeescude
    IP ADDRESS: 99.7.239.127

Instructions: Download "VirtuaLife.exe" and it will ask for an IP address. Give the IP address above. If it can't connect, tell me. The server may be down or it may be a bug.
Sign up for an account - the server is encrypted, your passwords are secure.

You might see people on. If you do, move around and chat!

I think it would be great, if you could get it to work. Personally my brain would get bored way before I was anywhere near getting started on a program like that, but since you seem to be knowledgeable enough in programming to get it done I think it'd be pretty cool.

If you post it exclusively here on these forums, it might also be a good way to get people to come here if enough interest can be generated...

    Smile thanks!

And yeah, if I get through this program and get a good community of Beta Testers going, this forum will be getting more and more users.

Very Happy You've caught the VirtuaDisease

I've been working on graphics so far. About a year ago, John introduced me to GIMP... And God, has that saved my ass many, many times.

Alright, on the first post, there is a thumbnail of the main menu of VL (VirtuaLife)

Click the thumbnail to see the whole image. Anyways, I want to know if this looks good. Notice the Sign In button has the mouse rolled over it.

Please tell me if I need to change colors, or something like that. Thanks!

Looks good, but there are a few things. First, the white text should be offset a little further down. Right now it encroaches upon the top border a bit too much.

Second, it might be a good idea to clean up some of the white dots around the outside of the sign up button.

Last, it's all black and white...might seem a little uninteresting to some people.

Other than that, I like the border and the background. The sign in button also looks good.

So remind me, what does this program do again?

I can't remember if you were around at the time of the first VirtuaLife or not...

Well VL is a MMORPG. It was really successful a long time ago. Through some unfortunate circumstances, I lost the project. A lot of people liked it, though.

I don't really know what color scheme to go with for the program.

EDIT: Maybe an orange and black theme?

I mean like, what do you do in the program?

The thing with the theme, I think it can't only be just a fancy gradient. There should be some identifiable factors to the graphics. Like any mmorpg, there's at least some graphics that give the game part of it's unique appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I could do any better (I couldn't do anything relative to graphics lol), I'm just saying what I think would work.

Oh yeah, I see what you're saying. I'll keep working on it.

Users sign in to VL, and can talk to each other, earn money, play games that are either 1P or multiplayer with the other users. There will be several different worlds, each having a unique look and feel.

I can't remember a lot of what I hoped for in VL, so I'm gonna try to find my old YYG thread.

VirtuaLife is still going on, right? It ought to be one of the first (if only) successful morpgs made with Game Maker. Quite an accomplishment. Keep going.
