...head out on the highway....
Anyways, here are a few thoughts I had. I still don't care much for the yoyo forums, even now coming back after another long hiatus. I'm thinking we can mold this into a more enjoyable forum, but right now it seems a lot of us are busy with r/l. I managed to get a few minutes to myself, though, so I started brainstorming some ideas to help us promote this place. Please, feel free to criticize and/or completely rip apart every single idea on this list if you'd like to; at least it'd help get the idea process started. =]
I know this place isn't necessarily meant to be anything serious, but it'd be nice to have a community with content we all care about that's run in a friendly, enjoyable manner. Central Games was a great community while it lasted; we just let it go and weren't aggressive enough, that was all.
My List:
-Posting. This is kind of a "duh" thing, but being that we only have a few partially-active members maybe we should each commit to making at least 5 posts a day regardless of new member registration (a post might include writing a new topic). We keep the forum "active" which leads other people to want to hopefully join in the discussions. At the very least it keeps the boards from looking barren.
-Forum banners. If we have a big banner and a small banner, we can use the big banner as the logo here and the small banner for affiliation and signatures on other forums.
-A target audience. Right now we're only advertising ourselves to yoyogames; while they do have many people who are looking for another community to join, the question is, why join this one? TwilightFantasm is already out there, as are many other established communities. We need something of our own to bring to the table. Maybe we could even call ourselves "the better yoyogames". OR, the base of VirtuaLife!
-Advertising. Let's not limit ourselves to yoyogames forums, let's also join a few other forums, even other small forums, and post around with a link to our community in our signatures. Eventually, once we do start to get a few more registrations, we can try doing a "member swap" with some of the smaller communities so that we send them our members and they send us theirs.
And this isn't all on you, John. I'll be happy to help with some of this stuff (sans the banners, due to my 0 graphical ability =p) provided that we're actually all on board for making this work. The thing is, most forums I've seen out there fail because everybody simply talks about wanting the place to pick up, but nobody actually goes and works for it. If it's just not that interesting to anyone to keep this thing going, then that's fine, we all have r/l obligations and I'm sure everyone else will understand. But if we do want this place to pick up, then, well, let's go for it. =D
